The GED Mathematics test is divided into two parts. For each part you are allowed 45 minutes. On the first part you may use a Casio fx-260 calculator. On the second part, no calculator is permitted. Each part has 25 questions. For 80% of the questions on each portion (20 out of 25 questions) you will provide simple multiple choice solutions. For the remaining 5% of questions (5 out of 25) you will have to construct an answer on a standard grid or coordinate plane grid. I will show you both how to use the allowed calculator and how to fill in grid answers. You are strongly advised to purchase your own Casio fx-260 calculator for home use. I use a combination of McGraw-Hill GED study materials and High School Algebra textbooks. I will advise you on what books you may need when we meet in person.

The preparation method that I employ is to have students take a diagnostic test in a quiet timed environment on their own. When the timer signals the end of their work times (if they have not finished), they mark how far along they came on the answer key, and finish the rest of the test. They score their tests themselves (with a provided answer key), and bring them to their first sessions with me.

On their first session, we go through all of the questions that they got wrong, and I make notes on where background knowledge is lacking. I provide personalized instruction on the topics that I have made note of using High School Algebra textbooks (which usually takes several sessions) and then give the students another shot at the questions that they have missed.

From this point on, study becomes about studying the questions on practice GED tests in the form that they appear. I look at the attempted solution methods and provide needed insight to successfully complete questions. I repeat questions in graduated intervals until they are mastered, and then give the students new tests to take on their own at home in the same way they did the first test. I make note of the score increase, and trends in missed questions, providing extra instruction in problem areas where needed. These methods of studying specific GED problems continue until students are ready to take their tests.

I provide personalized instruction in GED Mathematics for $60 an hour. Please contact me as early as possible before taking your test so that there is sufficient time to complete the program. With my help, you will be able to pass your GED and greatly expand your career options.
